The NOA is not a single-season destination. Each time of year offers a different experience, and choosing the right moment for your trip can make an enormous difference. This guide covers month by month what you can expect in terms of climate, landscape, and travel conditions.

MARCH TO MAY (autumn): The best time for many visitors. The summer rains have ended, the valleys are green, and the rivers carry water. Temperatures are pleasant: 15-25°C (59-77°F) in the valleys, cooler at higher elevations. Archaeological sites are at their visual best, with vegetation framing the ruins. The Puna roads are dry and passable.

JUNE TO AUGUST (winter): Dry days and clear skies, ideal for photography. But nights are cold, especially at altitude (temperatures can drop to -10°C / 14°F in the Puna). The lower valleys maintain comfortable daytime temperatures (15-20°C / 59-68°F). It is low season, which means fewer tourists and greater tranquility at the sites. Ideal for those seeking solitude and spectacular night skies.

SEPTEMBER TO NOVEMBER (spring): The NOA comes alive. Trees blossom, cacti burst into color, and temperatures gradually rise. This is an excellent time for the yungas (Ibatín, Quebrada del Río Los Sosa) because the jungle is in full swing. Mountain passes reopen after winter.

DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY (summer): The rainy season. Landscapes are green and lush, but afternoon rains can complicate roads and routes. The Puna may have roads washed out. The lower valleys are hot (30-35°C / 86-95°F). While it is peak tourist season, it is not necessarily the best time for archaeological excursions due to the heat and rain.

OUR RECOMMENDATION: For day excursions (Quilmes, Tafí, Ibatín), the best times are March-May and September-November. For the 4x4 Puna experience, April-October offers the best road and weather conditions. Avoid December-February for the Puna: rains can make roads impassable.

Whatever time of year you choose, our excursions adapt to the conditions. And if the weather forecast turns bad, we reschedule at no extra charge. Your safety is always our priority.
